System created by former NASA engineers now protects workers in hundreds of logistics operations across the U.S. and Globally including Latin America

Huntsville, Alabama (USA), June 1, 2025 — With a team of engineers with expertise born from the Apollo and Skylab space programs, Frederick Mobile Instruments (FMI) launched HIT-NOT®, a groundbreaking safety system that is transforming industrial work environments by drastically reducing pedestrian collisions involving heavy machinery.

Unlike traditional RFID-based solutions, HIT-NOT® uses pulsed low-frequency electromagnetic fields capable of penetrating walls, steel structures, and cargo. This allows for accurate detection of pedestrians near vehicles, triggering visual, audible, and vibration alerts in two zones: warning and danger — up to 30 meters away.

“We’ve taken techniques learned from early space technology development and applied it to our products today. Our focus is simple: saving lives and making operations smarter,” said Andrew F. Nichols , CEO at FMI.

Already implemented in hundreds of U.S. operations, HIT-NOT® is also gaining traction in Latin America. In Chile, global pulp manufacturer Arauco installed the system in 16 plants following a comprehensive risk assessment, successfully eliminating pedestrian hazards in log yards with restricted visibility.

The impact was immediate: fewer stops, higher productivity, and above all, a safer and more confident work environment for our operators as reported by Arauco’s Occupational Health and Safety Management.

Beyond proximity alerts, HIT-NOT® generates heat maps and analytics that help managers redesign workflows and address critical risk areas.

“Each operation comes with unique risks. Our goal is to precisely identify them, creating environments where people and machines can coexist safely and efficiently,” added Nichols.

With deep roots in aerospace engineering and a track record of technological innovation since 1995, FMI continues its global expansion and sets a new standard for 21st-century industrial safety.
