January 24th in Massachusetts’ History: A Look at the Events that Shaped the State

In the cultural realm, January 24th marks the birthday of famous American author, Nathaniel Hawthorne. He was born in Salem, Massachusetts in 1804 and is best known for his novels “The Scarlet Letter” and “The House of Seven Gables.” Hawthorne’s works often explore the dark side of human nature and the history of his native New England. He is considered one of the great American authors of the 19th century.
